Agunsoye pledge to donate roofing for rebuilding
Tragedy struck In Agboyi –Ketu area of Lagos after fire razed a building, killing the Landlady and her 12-year-old grandson.
Two people, the landlord’s son and a friend of the family who had come on visitation, were also injured in the accident. They are still recuperating at Gbagada general Hospital at the time of filling this report.
Eight rooms and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.
The fire incident, according to eyewitness, started at 8:15pm on Thursday 25th of October, 2018 at a the building located at 47 Agboyi road, Kosofe area of Lagos.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known; our correspondent, however, reliably gathered that candlelight may have been responsible for the fire outbreak.
BreezeReporters gathered that when the fire breakout neighbours and passerby rushed to the building to assist in putting out the fire and rescue victims who were trapped.
Their effort succeeded in stopping the spread of the fire, before the arrival of Men of the Lagos State Fire Service at 9:45pm who later finished the job.
Seventy-six-year-old Alhaji Mustapha manage to escape the fire but his 72-year-old wife, Alhaja Seliatu Mustapha and his grandson were unlucky, they died in Gbagada General hospital after suffering from severe burns.
For Alhaji Mustapha, seeing his house reduced to ashes and losing his wife and grandson in one night, was the saddest moment of his life, he cried out.
Mustapha, who had been taking shelter in a mosque along the street, narrated to BreezeReporters how the fire started.
‘’I was already asleep as at that time, I just heard noise then I stood up only to see that it was fire’’
The septuagenarian expressed his sadness about the incident, while appealing to the government to come to his aide.
‘’Right now it is difficult to feed, some neighbours are the ones helping me, donating what they can.’’
‘’ I still have my family members in the hospital, we have spent so much on medical bills, it has not been easy, he said.
‘’I would like the government to come to our aide, help me rebuild this house, I have nowhere to stay, I have been sleeping here in the mosque since the incident happened’’
Meanwhile, BreezeReporters gathered plans are being made raise fund for the family. An Islamic foundation has donated funds for the family, it was learnt.
Commenting on the incident, Comrade Waheed Odunuga, Lagos state Coordinator of the Buhari Youth Organisation, BYO, called for support for the aged man.
Rotimi Agunsoye, House of Representative member for Kosofe Constituency, has promise to donated roofing sheets and cash towards rebuilding the house for the septuagenarian.
Confirming Agunsoye’s gesture, Comrade Doyin Johnson from the office office of the lawmaker, told Breezereporters that the reps members has pledged to donate roofing sheets towards rebuilding the house as well as cash.
‘’I can confirm to you that Hon. Agunsoye will donate roofing sheet for the house and cash will be given the the elderly man, Johnson said.
It was further gathered the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Dele Osinowo sent a team to condole with the family and access the situation.
However, Mr. Osinowo did not respond to BreezeReporters’ enquiry on what his office is doing about the tragic incident.
