On Tuesday October 20, 2020, armed soldiers shot sporadically at the #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate plaza in Lagos killing no fewer than seven persons and injuring hundreds of others.
According to eyewitness accounts, the soldiers blocked the the two exits of the tollgate leaving no escape route for unarmed protesters.
Many protesters sustained bullet wounds as a result of the attack that suddenly came just after the billboard on the tollgate and the streetlights around the premises were switched off.
BREEZEREPORTERS had reported how government officials went to the toll gate plaza to disconnect security CCTV camera two hours before the shooting.
Government imposed curfew effective from 4:00pm, claiming it was in response to curtail growing violence by hoodlums in the state. Enforcement of the curfew was later postponed to commence at 9:00pm to enable those stuck in traffic to get home but soldiers attack protesters at about 7:oopm.
A video recorded by an eyewitness, indicated that seven protesters were killed during the attack.
“They have killed more than seven people that I have seen with my eyes. They were killed with real bullets and not even rubber bullets,” the recorder of the footage said.
Soldiers also prevented ambulance from getting to victims of the bloody attacks at the tollgate.
Protesters alleged that Soldiers carried some of the corpse away making it difficult to account for the actual number of fatalities.
Prior to the blackout, it was learnt that two soldiers were at the tollgate from the Lekki axis to pledge their support for the protest by the #EndSARS campaigners.

Few minutes after the soldiers came, it was learnt that there was a sudden blackout as a group of armed soldiers advancing from the Ozumba Mbadiwe axis started shooting sporadically into the air and at the protesters.
At first, Protesters were sitting in on the floor, raising their flags and singing the National Anthem as soldiers shot heavily in their direction.
All the protesters later scampered for safety as many sustained bullet wounds .
It was further gathered that more gunshots were heard around the area till the early hours of wednesday.

The #LekkiMassacre has been condemned globally with former US Secretary of States, Hillary Clinton calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army to stop killing young Nigerian citizens.
Although, Nigeria Army denied killing unarmed protesters but video evidences countered that claim.
