Masked operatives of the Nigeria Police force on Friday stormed the hospital where the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye was receiving treatment and whisked him away.
It was gathered that the officers forced the lawmaker, who was on the hospital bed, into an unmarked vehicle and drove him to the medical facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
Melaye surrendered to the police, after eight days’ siege to his Abuja residence.
The Senator has been in the hospital since he surrendered himself to the police.
However, the Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Jimoh Moshood, later confirmed that the senator was moved to a DSS hospital in Abuja, during a telephone interview with Channels Television.
He explained that the lawmaker was indeed taken away from the Police Clinic to another government-owned medical facility after the senator and the police disagreed about his fitness to face trial.
Speaking further, Moshood revealed that the police had obtained a warrant of arrest to detain the lawmaker.
According to him, the police secured the warrant from a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court to keep Senator Melaye for 14 days, which started from Wednesday, January 9.
